  • Fiat gets 5,500 orders for new Croma estate car

    Reuters / July 13, 2005

TURIN -- Fiat has got 5,500 orders for its new Croma estate car, the Italian group said on Wednesday.

The Croma hit Italian showrooms in late May and is being rolled out across Europe over the few next weeks as part of Fiat's push to revamp its model range and revive sales to pull it back into profit.

When the Croma was launched Fiat said it expected to produce between 50,000 and 60,000 units a year and sell about two thirds of them in Italy. About 40 percent of production was due to be sold into the fleet market, Fiat said.

Fiat is due to launch a new version of its best-selling Punto and a new Alfa Romeo 159 in September.

Italy's largest industrial group blamed the hiatus ahead of the next wave of launches for a 4 percent fall in its Western European car sales in June.
